RBA Holds Interest Rates – Is Your Australian Home Loan Still Competitive?

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has today left the cash rate unchanged at 4.35%.

While there's no immediate change to interest rates, there has been plenty happening behind the scenes. Australian lenders are becoming increasingly competitive, creating opportunities for Australian expats to review their borrowing arrangements and potentially save thousands over the life of their loan.

The Lending Market Is Becoming More Competitive

We're seeing some of the most competitive onshore pricing from lenders including:

  • People First Bank

  • Macquarie

  • ME Bank

  • MyState Bank

  • Auswide Bank

For eligible borrowers with lower Loan-to-Value Ratios (LVRs), rates are starting from 5.99% p.a., subject to lender criteria and individual circumstances.

For Australian expats, we're also seeing strong competition from specialist lenders including:

  • Commonwealth Bank (CBA)

  • Bankwest

  • La Trobe Financial

  • Brighten

Many of these lenders are offering discretionary pricing discounts or flexible lending solutions for Australian citizens living and working overseas.

HSBC Is Exiting the Australian Retail Banking Market

Another important reason to review your home loan is HSBC's decision to exit the Australian retail banking market.

If your mortgage or everyday banking is currently with HSBC Australia, now is an ideal time to review your lending arrangements and understand what your options are moving forward. Rather than waiting for changes to occur, take the opportunity to ensure your home loan remains competitive and aligned with your long-term financial goals.

When Was Your Last Home Loan Review?

If you haven't reviewed your Australian home loan in the last 12 months, now is the perfect time.

A review could help you:

  • Reduce your interest rate and repayments.

  • Improve your cash flow while living overseas.

  • Unlock equity in your Australian property.

  • Renovate before returning home.

  • Purchase another investment property.

  • Fund future lifestyle goals, including a caravan or holiday home for your return to Australia.
